Escape Fast Food Guilt - Easy to Cook Fast Food at Home

Are you tired of feeling guilty about stopping off at McDonald's or the Pizza Place to pick up dinner after an exhausting day at work? Turn over a new leaf by creating your own list of menus for fast food at home. It is much easier than you think. This way, you can have the ingredients in your refrigerator and pantry, ready for you to put on the table in about 30 minutes. Your family will be eating healthier and your food budget will be smaller.
One of my favorite fast food ingredients is supermarket roast chicken. You can eat it as roast chicken one night, and use the leftovers in a variety of ways. The first night, serve it with a packaged salad and a boxed rice pilaf. The second night you can shred the leftovers and add them to a main dish Caesar salad, make tacos, or pasta with Alfredo sauce.
Thin, boneless pork chops work well for fast food at home meals. You have to be careful not to overcook them, but they are tasty and good with a variety of toppings and sauces. Simply dredge them in a light coating of flour and salt and pepper and sauté for a few minutes per side in about 1-2 tablespoons of light vegetable oil. You can then add some sliced mushrooms, ¼ cup of white wine or chicken broth, let the mixture thicken and you have a delicious main course. Serve with a packaged rice or pasta blend, make a salad or quick-cooking vegetable like asparagus or broccoli and dinner is on the table in a flash.
Packaged lettuces are so easy. You only have to run them through the salad spinner for a final rinse and they are ready to go. Add a can of mandarin oranges, marinated artichoke hearts and whatever else you have on hand and you have a quick salad. Keep some favorite bottled salad dressings in your refrigerator and you are ready to go. One of my favorites is Trader Joe's organic lettuce mixtures.
Dried pasta and packaged rice and couscous blends are handy to have in your pantry. I love Uncle Ben's long grain and wild rice and Mahatma Spanish rice and yellow saffron rice mixes. They are great side dishes for any meat that you choose. Cook up your choice of pasta, top it with one of the tasty jars of prepared pasta sauces, make a salad and you have dinner on the table in about 30 minutes.
Start your fast food stash gradually and start creating menus, a few each week and before you know it, you will become a fast food at home junkie!

In the refrigerator: Roast chicken, packaged lettuce, Parmesan cheese and easy to prepare vegetables such as broccoli, and asparagus, plus a jar of chopped garlic and a lemon or two. A package of frozen peas adds some variety to your vegetable selection. I add a teaspoon of mint jelly to frozen peas to make them fresh tasting.
In the pantry: package rice and couscous blends, pasta of your choice, a few jars of pasta sauces, canned mandarin oranges, marinated artichoke hearts, black olives, and bottled salad dressings.
Here is a quick chicken soft taco recipe that my family loves.
Chicken Soft Tacos
(adjust amounts to your serving size)
Left over Shredded chicken (from the roast chicken or chickens you bought)
Flour or corn tortillas
Jarred Pace Picante sauce (I like the chunky stuff)
Shredded Mexican blend cheese
Shredded lettuce
Chopped tomato
Mix Picante sauce with the shredded chicken until it is moistened. Let it sit while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
Warm the tortillas in a 300 degree oven. Put the chicken, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese into serving bowls. Let everyone make their own tacos.
Enjoy!

Home style cooking has its enormous charms, and thankfully, too few people deny the charms of home cooked food. Everyone is happy to have food cooked at home with excellent recipes. That is, everyone enjoys delicious home cooked food so far as they do not have to do the cooking themselves. In other words, cooking is forced to bear the stamp of a tedious chore. Time is ripe for the reverse evolution of getting addicted to home cooking and delicious recipes instead of getting addicted to the chips and fries of fast food chains. Trying out new recipes has its own reward. There are plenty of recipes to choose from, starting from a variety of appetizers and ending with an array of desserts. Try out new and exotic recipes. Incorporate some novelty into your cooking. Different family members would obviously have different tastes, and unless there is variety and novelty in home cooked food, it is not possible to attract all family members to the meal table.
Vegetarianism and Veganism is in fashion. Fusion food is a gourmet's passion. Outdoor grills are fun. Salad carving and food decor are arts that can be developed to perfection. Each of these simple statements offers a world of information and lots of challenges to those who are interested in home cooking and are keen to improve their knowledge of the art. If you have space to manage that, it is one of the best facets of home cooking and an ideal way in which the whole family can join in the cooking and share its fruits together. Above all, remember that cooking is not just for one's own family. Invite your friends and relatives on festival days and have a barbecue outside or use your best recipes inside to entertain them. Another easy Romanian recipe that is good for the taste buds is the potato broth. The ingredients you require are 600 grams of potatoes, 100 grams of onions, 100 grams of carrots, 50 grams of parsley, a liter of borsch, a bunch of green parsley and another of lovage along with a little salt.

This survey discovered that there were actually a lot of people who would like to be able to cook their favorite Italian meals at home but were not confident in the quality of the product since they were inexperienced whenever it comes to cooking this cuisine. Practice, help from a friend, and even lessons can help with confidence.
The Prep Work For Cooking
A lot of people have their doubts whenever it comes to preparing this food. Many of these people are also confused about gathering together the special ingredients that are needed to add the special charm and flavor to these dishes. Nevertheless, Italian food is still very popular in American and Europe because it tastes so great. Does Classic Italian Food Mean Pizza?

There is no doubt about it, for most people Italian food means pizza. Well, sometimes it means spaghetti, but nine times out of ten, people are thinking of pizza when they say they want to go out for Italian.
And while it is true, there is pizza I Italy, most times, the pizza you will get there bears little resemblance to the pizza most Americans are used to eating. Because some people think the type of pizza you find in Italy is more authentic, they say once you have it you never want regular American pizza again. But the truth is, as far as food goes (pizza included) the delight is in the taste of the beholder. Perhaps you have read some of the more modern wine courses which teach the theory that any wine is good wine, as long as you like it. Well, taste in food is the same.
If you taste both authentic Italian pizza and American pizza, and you decide that you like the American version better than the original. Then there is no reason that you should have to eat anything else. After all, it's your tongue and stomach, not that of somebody else.
People can be real snobs when it comes to eating, and with Italian food, this happens often. People get all wrapped up in what is the real flavor of the country and neglect the flavors that have been their favorites for years. This is not how meals are supposed to be. Meals are supposed to be fun.
Take pizza, for instance, rumor has it that pizza in Italy actually started in the Middle East where pieces of flatbread were used to hold toppings or seasoned oil and eaten without the benefits of plates or tableware. It is actually a pretty innovative idea, to be able to eat your plate when you are done with your meal. Originally, the flatbread was often unleavened like matzos, but when people found that it was relatively to control the leavening process, they began to make all kinds of breads to eat and enjoy.
One really excellent invention that helped make pizza into the dish we know and love today was the production of mozzarella cheese. The best kind of this cheese is made from the milk of water buffaloes and is from Campania. The cheese itself is eaten in many ways but on pizza, the low moisture style of the cheese is preferred.
When you combine baking the pizza in a traditional wood fire oven, and add a selection of toppings which these days can even include jalapeno peppers, you have a treat that may not be traditional, sure tastes great. Food traditions can certainly evolve and change from country to country but as long as eating remains a fun activity, I think that change is good. And why not, because the most important rule about eating is that good food is meant to be good fun.
Pat loves to cook and spend time on the internet finding great deals on food and food gear. She is always on the lookout to find great ideas that help other people out.

Fresh Pasta, Yum!

If you are passionate about cooking and you enjoy pasta, you will love having a pasta maker machine. What a difference these machines will make in the freshness of your meals. If you want to try one out without spending too much money, try a manual hand-crank machine. They are easy to use and churn out great pasta.
All you will need to start out is flour, eggs and salt. Combine the three ingredients and work them with a fork until the mixture becomes too difficult, then you will need to begin kneading it with your hands. Once the dough is well formed and elastic, you will cut the dough into parts (how many depends on the recipe you are following), flatten each part and then run them through your pasta machine. You will have to do this process a couple of times until you get the thickness your desire. When you are finished rolling the strips you will need to dry them out. Once the pieces are dry you will run them through the cutting blades of your pasta maker machine. They will then be ready to cook. One important fact to remember is that fresh pasta cooks much faster than the dried, store bought pasta. As soon as your homemade pasta floats to the top of the boiling water, it is done.

Tasty American Restaurants - Dishes For Home Cooking

All of us have some fondness for home style cooking tucked somewhere in our heart of hearts. Home cook meals conjure up early memories of family gatherings, dinners at the table, our mom's, or even our dad's, specialties and, of course, grandma or grandpa's cooking. In today's urban lifestyle of fast food and take out, we yearn for these distant luxuries. No wonder most of us, when dining out, choose those American restaurants that come closest to that distinct home cooking taste.

American food is of three large groups. There is the down-home cooking consisting of chicken fried steak, gravy, fried chicken, green beans, apple pie, vanilla ice cream, pork and beans, potato salad, and those kinds of dishes. The second consists of pizza, pasta, salads and soda. And the third is the hamburger, fries and milkshake. Most restaurants with an American taste have all these three groups listed on their menus. Thrown in the package are popular options for children: chicken strips, corn dogs and hot dogs.
Many of us are becoming wary about the health value of these foods due to findings stating that they are not very healthy, contains a high volume of fat and cholesterol while laying low on essential nutrients. The food industry is quick to put a solution to this and now we see restaurants having healthier options in their menus with children's menus updated with healthy options by adding milk, apples, oranges and many more.
What entice most people to American food are simplicity, ease and convenience when it comes to preparation. This is very evident in American restaurants. One other thing that many people start to realize is they could make the same dishes in their own homes and spend less. This could have been a morphed strategy to cope with the recession when routines we used to enjoy like eating out suddenly became a luxury that put considerable deep dents on everyone's monthly budget. Recipes of favorite restaurant dishes could be deduced by talented housewives and connoisseurs then made available online for the public to try.
Now that you have a printed recipe in your counter, it is important to realize that it is not going to taste exactly the same as it did in that restaurant. This is mainly due to the fact that a different cook or chef is preparing the food and this is you, and you do not likely have all of the professional equipment in your kitchen. Also, if you do not use the same exact brands of ingredients, then things will taste different as well. On the other hand, this is a fun way for you to inject your own particular style or taste and give a certain twist to that dish you always order in that restaurant you and your family frequent. Just imagine the talent and skill you get to hone in the process and the incredible amount of savings you can make, while not missing on your regular weekend special dinners.
